    Default Bashsea Twisted Skimmer

Hi Crow, What do you think of the Bashsea Twisted Skimmer setup?
I have a backpac and don't think it works for crap.
I was thinking of upgrading to the BashSea TWISTED 6" x 30" Beckett Skimmer then down the road when I get a larger tank I'll still have a skimmer that will work.

    So what do you think?

    Thanks, Bill

Bashsea does some amazing work, and I like the fact that its made here locally, and all the materials are made here in the USA. I couldn't be happier with my custom Bashsea skimmer. My tank is clear, fish are doing great, and my corals are growing like weeds!

I think you'll be very happy with the upgrade!

*side note* - Funny you mention skimmers, as I just finished cleaning mine, gotta love the smell of skimmate! lol

Thats funny because I normally Gag when I smell something bad but the skimmate doesn't bother me for some reason.
I think I will order one then even though I cant afford it!

Woohoo!!! My Bashsea skimmer is here!!

So how do I hook it up?

I know where the inlet and outlet are but there is another small outlet right below the inlet.
Is this a vent or overflow?

One more question, what would be the best way to set it up?
Pull from the main tank or from the sump and output to the sump?

    Thanks, Bill

WooT! Congrats, lets see some pictures!!

I like to put the skimmer pump in the area of the sump that gets its water from the tank, that little hole your asking about is the air intake, it draws air in that fitting to mix with the water.

I'm guessing that your pipe that drains the tank is on the left of your sump? I'd put the skimmer pump in that area, and have the skimmer outlet also in that area, you want to skim the water before the fuge area, this has always worked best for me, since whatever does get past the skimmer, the plants in the fuge will clean up.

Hope this helps, if you have anymore questions, let me know Bill I'll be happy to help!

Thanks Crow, I sent an E-mail to Bashsea too and got one back from Steve telling me to give him a call and he would talk me through the set up. Now thats service!!

When or if I ever get the extra money I will see about getting a sump-fuge from him that
will fit and work under my stand.
Till then I think I will get a plexy 5g tank and set it up just above the sump for the skimmer
and have the overflow go right into the sump. I think!

Yeah, he is a great guy, did you tell him you were from this site? lol
You do have limited space under that tank, you might want to look at another stand, that will give you some more space under it, I thought you had room behind each side of the stand, but now that i look at it more, it looks like those black areas are shelves or something limiting your space.

Yeah, I have NO room under my stand so I think I'm going to set up my skimmer next
to it and hide it with a screen.

Crow, just one more thing. I assume that you set the level for the skimmer with a ball valve between the pump and skimmer. I'm using a Mag Drive 7
I'm still setting it up and have to make my third trip to the hardware store today.

Got it set up and nothing.. Talked to Steve and he said I need at least a Mag Drive 9.5
The 7 I have just can't do it. I let Amazon Stingrays know that there info is wrong and hope they change it before to many other people buy a pump that wont work. O'well more money I don't have. So I think I will get a 1200 gph just to be safe and use my Mag 7 for water changes.

Did you buy the mag 7 from Pat at Amazon Stingrays? I bet if you asked he would exchange it out for the 9.5, and you pay the difference...

No I didn't buy it from Amazon But I will find a use for it.
I got the skimmer working sort of, I am using a Mag 12 and it seems like it is just barley enough to do the job.

Humm, Other then having some head loss because of it being so far from the pump, I don't see why it wouldn't be rocking! I looked at the image above, and don't really see anything wrong in your plumbing.

Only thing I can guess would be that the drain line from the skimmer is creating a vacuum or suction pulling the water out of the skimmer instead of the skimmer pushing it out...

Have you spoke to steve about this?

How the skimmer doing? I spoke with Steve a few days ago, and told him how you thought it was nice that he gave you his number to call him to trouble shoot the issues you were having.. and I'm excited that you may have gotten the idea to buy a Bashsea from this site!
